Who We Are
Sister-to-Sisterwas founded to provide social, financial and emotional support
to divorced and widowed women raising children.

Social Support.

The Sister-to-SisterAdvocate Program is comprised of trained, caring volunteers, as well as professional therapists and social workers, whose primary goal is assisting divorced and widowed women by providing a network of caring support, professional resources and social services. Unlike some traditional support programs, the Sister-to-Sisterprogram is designed to be low-key and informal. Its model is built on one-on-one relationships, even friendships, between advocates and women who could benefit from the resources and services.

Sister-to-Sistermatches each woman with an educated advocate. The advocate provides caring support and encouragement, informs the women of the services available to her, and ensures that the full scope of the organization's resources is made available to each woman with dignity and without hassle or delay.

Sister-to-Sisteris very much not a charity organization. It is built on the premise that divorced and widowed women can always use the support of their friends and family. By highlighting the needs of this community of women, and providing advocates the training and background to assist, Sister-to-Sisterfacilitates, and ensures the availability of, the friendly support that divorced and widowed women require.

Economic Independence

The Sister-to-SisterEconomic Independence program includes projects and resources to provide individualized counseling to assist women in achieving financial self sufficiency. Assistance ranges from group and individual meetings with financial planners, monthly stipends for eligible individuals and vocational and career counseling. The program focuses on helping women achieve financial independence via job training and placement.

Emotional and Group Support

The Emotional and Group Support Program includes community based events, monthly support groups hosted by experienced professionals and monthly inspirational newsletters.

Sister-to-Sisteralso hosts periodic lectures and sessions devoted to topics of interest to divorced and widowed women such as parenting workshops and inspirational speeches. But, perhaps more importantly, these sessions offer a forum for women to meet others faced with similar challenges and issues, share ideas, and generally draw support from one another.
